Pearl: A Timeless Gem

Although the other two gemstones for June are popular, pearls are the favorite.  Pearls are different from most gemstones. They are created inside oysters and other mollusks. Unlike other gems, pearls are not mined from the ground.

Pearls are found in both saltwater and freshwater. Saltwater pearls grow in oceans and seas, while freshwater pearls grow in rivers and lakes.  Some of the most famous pearl-producing countries are Australia, Japan, China, French Polynesia, and the Philippines.

People have loved pearls for hundreds of years. They are often linked to purity, wisdom, and honesty.
